Josh started out this baseball season playing on the Braves. (Just happens to be Jon's favorite team) His team did really well. They even placed 2nd going into post season play although they lost early in the tournament. Josh felt very comfortable this year, and really enjoyed himself.
Hats off to Coach Kump. He just goes from one sport to the next, and Josh has played on a number of his teams. What a great guy for spending so much time coaching.
In the middle of the season, Josh decided he wanted to try out for the all star team. We told him we would support what he wanted, but he would have to put in the work, and lo and behold, he made the Cal Ripken All Star team! We weren't really sure what we had signed up for...but in the end it was a really great experience for Josh.
The boys went to three tournaments: Rexburg, Chubbock, and the state tournament in Boise. Josh ended up not playing nearly as much as he was used to--and all new positions--outfield, and 2nd base. They won some, and they lost some. They played the top 2 teams in the state over in Boise, so they got beat really badly, but they did pull out one win--in very hot weather, and extra innings while they were there.
He did make some new friends--boys from Rigby, and Skyline areas. And he had a lot of fun.
His coaches were pretty serious--and that was a new experience for Josh. He learned about hard work, and lots of practicing--perfecting his form and batting stance (especially door knocker knuckles). And he learned that if you want to play you have to work really hard, and show that you want it. His coaches were very complimentary of him--they called him "fluid" (whatever that means?) Even after all the running around, and the busy weekends,when it's all said and done, I hope he decides to try it again next year.
