Well, for months we have talked about "When Jon goes to Alaska"...and now it's here! He left yesterday morning...and would you know, the house is still standing, the mailbox didn't fall over because I only got the mail today (yes, we actually had mail in it for 2 days--jon and the mail are another story altogether), all the kids are still alive, I still have my hair, and we've only been out to eat once! Okay, the out to eat thing isn't that great, but a take and bake pizza hardly counts as eating out, right? And we all know that we have to go to Wendy's at least once when Dad goes away, becuase we all love it, and he hates it! We had movie night last night, and the kids helped with chores today! And, last but not least we got the peaches started...Thank you Jillian.
Jon called today, and had spent the yesterday flying before meeting up with Dad, David (my dad's brother), and James (David' son-in-law, my cousin's husband), in Seattle last night where they all headed to Ketchikan together. When he called this afternoon, he was boarding the ferry to Prince Wale's Island. He sounded relaxed, and excited to fish after seeing all the fish in the rivers in Ketchikan. We are so excited for him to have this grand adventure; it's something he's talked about doing for a couple of years, and I love seeing him excited like a little kid in the candy store---he doesn't get that way very often. Sometimes we adults grow up a little too much and end up not getting excited over much at all. So it's fun to see his eyes light up, and I could almost hear that sparkle in his eyes this afternoon. We can't wait till he calls again to keep us posted on everything he sees!
