Wow, my days and weeks are getting away from me. Jon's been home a whole week, told almost all of his stories, eaten the silver salmon (YUMMY!!), and finally threw away the fish head he brought home in his luggage to show the kids. We are glad to have him home, and just as glad that he had such a fun trip.
Jon decided that he wanted to bring one of the fish heads home from Alaska to show the kids. He chopped it off the fish, and froze it in the freezer up there, and when it was time to pack up, he wrapped in in a flannel shirt and packed it in his duffel bag for the long ride home on the air plane. Unfortunately, when he arrived in Salt Lake City, his bags were not with him. We, probably me a little more than him, were dreading how long his luggage was going to be lost with a fish head inside, and really what kind of trouble you could get into for packing something like that in your bags. Jon's bags didn't arrive in Idaho Falls until the following afternoon, meaning the fish head had been in there how long? Anyway, I rifled through his bags, found the wrapped shirt and threw it in the freezer, too afraid to look and see what mess I would find. Luckily enough, it was still chilled, and when Jon pulled it out of the freezer later that night, the kids, especially the boys thought it was pretty cool--they liked touching his eye balls, and decided that it's teeth really were pretty sharp.
After we ate fish for dinner last night - which was really oh so good, even the picky eater Josh would agree, Josh started to beg his dad to take him fishing in Alaska someday. We decided he was going to have to start working on his muscles now so he would be strong enough to reel those big fish in. Josh disagreed though...he didn't want to go for the fishing, he just wants to go to see all the BEARS!!
I know the picture is very hard to see...Jon came home with very few pictures. A black bear was fishing for his own dinner just across the river...the fish is actually jumping right in front of the bear here. I wish I could circle the bear in bright orange so you could actually see where it is. We'll post some better photos when we get a disc from the "official photographer" of the Alaska adventure!
